CBD Oils

This category contains oils in a bottle with a pipette. An oil is a plant extract diluted with a carrier oil. The extract provides the plant substances, the carrier oil provides the volume and makes the whole pourable and measurable drop by drop. The ratio between those two determines the percentage on the label.

What a percentage means

The percentage on the label indicates what part of the total contents consists of the extract. A ten-millilitre bottle at ten percent therefore contains about one millilitre of extract, topped up with nine millilitres of carrier oil. A higher percentage doesn't mean the bottle is bigger, but that there is more extract per drop and correspondingly less carrier oil. The label also states the contents in millilitres, the full ingredient list, the batch number and the best-before date.

The carrier oils

  • MCT oil is derived from coconut and consists of medium-chain fatty acids. It is thin, almost colourless and neutral in taste, and stays liquid even when cold.
  • Olive oil is thicker and greenish-yellow, with its own herbaceous taste that you notice.
  • Sunflower oil is light in colour and mild in taste, and is pressed from the seeds.
  • Coconut oil in its unfractionated form becomes solid below about 24 degrees and liquid again above that temperature.

The choice of carrier oil therefore mainly determines the thickness, colour and taste of the end product.

The bottle and the pipette

The bottles are made of dark or coloured glass. That is not styling but function: coloured glass lets in less light, and light breaks down plant components. The cap holds a glass pipette with a rubber bulb, often with measuring marks that indicate the contents in millilitres. A pipette stays clean longest if the glass tip doesn't touch anything. Don't touch the tip with your fingers and don't put the pipette down loose. If it does get dirty, rinse it with lukewarm water and let it dry completely before putting it back, because water in the bottle shortens the shelf life.

Storage

Store the bottles upright, dark, dry and at room temperature or cooler. Not in the car, not on the windowsill and not next to a heat source. Slight discolouration or a thin sediment at the bottom occurs with plant extracts and in itself says nothing about the quality. Note the opening date if you like, so you can track the shelf life after opening. Keep the bottles out of reach of children.

We have a laboratory analysis made of every batch, with the batch number, the measured substance profile and the checks for heavy metals, pesticides and microbiology. The batch number is on the packaging. Give us that number and you'll receive the report that belongs to your bottle.
