This category contains edible and drinkable products in which a plant extract is incorporated. You'll find tea, honey, a paste in a syringe with graduation, a baking mix and drinks. They differ greatly in form and in how concentrated they are, and that is the most important thing to know before you choose.

Tea

The tea is a herbal blend of dried plant material. Besides the ordinary blend there is a compound variant offered under the name Yellow and Green, in which several types are combined. The label states which herbs are incorporated and in what order of quantity they occur. Loose tea consists of larger, recognisable parts such as whole or broken leaves and pieces of flower. Good dried tea is even in colour, smells clearly and breaks rather than bends.

Honey

The honey is liquid flower honey that is cold-processed. Cold processing means the honey is not heated strongly, so smell and taste are preserved. Honey consists mainly of the sugars fructose and glucose with a small share of water, and almost always crystallises over time. The glucose then forms small crystals and the honey becomes cloudy and solid. That is normal and says nothing about the quality. If you want it liquid again, place the jar in a bowl of lukewarm water. Strong heating is not necessary and actually harms smell and taste.

Paste in a syringe with graduation

The edible paste is the most concentrated product in this category, with an extract content of about 75 percent. Because the paste is too thick to pour, it comes in a syringe with a graduation instead of in a jar or bottle. This lets you measure per mark how much you take out. The syringe comes in 2 millilitres and in 10 millilitres. Store it cool and with the cap on, and after refrigeration let it come to temperature first, because cold paste is almost impossible to get out of the syringe.

Baking mix and drinks

The cake mix contains the dry ingredients for four cupcakes in the right ratio. You add the wet ingredients yourself. The packaging states what else you need. The drinks are ready to use and plant-based in composition.

What's on the label

• The ingredients, in order of decreasing quantity.
• Allergens, required to be emphasised in the ingredient list.
• The net contents in grams or millilitres.
• The best-before date and the storage advice, with often a different period after opening.
