Candies

This category contains sweets enriched with a plant extract. These are not ordinary sweets, nor a supplement in tablet form, but an in-between form: a sweet with a fixed amount of extract incorporated. Each pack contains 40 grams. There are three flavour forms, and of each form there is an active and a non-active formula.

The three forms

  • Gummies. Soft, springy sweets in fruit flavours such as mango, peach and berry. This is the mildest flavour form of the three.
  • Liquorice bar. A 40-gram bar of salty liquorice. You don't have to use the bar all at once, because you can break pieces off it.
  • Sour cola bottles. The classic cola shape with a sour outer layer.

What they're made of

The base is sugar or a natural sweetener, supplemented with pectin as a gelling agent and natural flavourings for the taste. Pectin is a plant-based binder extracted from fruit, usually from apple or from the peel of citrus fruits. That is a deliberate choice: gummy sweets are more often made with gelatine, and gelatine is an animal product. Because pectin is used here, the sweets are plant-based. There are no artificial colourings or preservatives in them.

Pectin behaves differently from gelatine. It gels at a higher temperature, gives a slightly firmer and shorter bite, and doesn't melt in the mouth the way gelatine sweets do. That explains the difference in texture you notice when you put the two side by side.

Active and non-active formula

Of each flavour form there is an active and a non-active variant. The difference lies in the extract incorporated, not in the sweet itself. Which variants you see depends on the web shop you are looking at. The label and the product page state which formula it is, which extract variant is in it and what the full ingredient list is.

Storage

Store the packaging dry, dark and at room temperature, and close it well after opening. Pectin-based sweets absorb moisture from the air. In an open bag the sweets therefore become sticky and stick together. Heat strengthens that effect, so don't leave the packaging on the windowsill, in the car or next to a heat source. The fridge is not necessary and even works against you, because condensation then forms on the sweets. Keep the packaging out of reach of children.

We have a laboratory analysis made of every batch, with the batch number, the measured substance profile and the checks for heavy metals, pesticides and microbiology. The batch number is on the packaging. Give us that number and we'll send the report that belongs to your packaging.
