How do you use kola nut?

Kola nut (Cola Nitida) is supplied as a powder in a 50 gram package. Although kola nut can be consumed in various ways, we recommend preparing it as a tea. Use half to one full teaspoon per cup of hot water, let the tea steep for 5 to 20 minutes and stir well. The tea has a slightly bitter taste; if desired, use a flavouring or sweetener to make it more pleasant. You can also add half a teaspoon to quark or a smoothie for an extra energy boost at breakfast. For optimal extraction of the active substances, it is important not to let the water boil when pouring it over the herbs. A temperature of around 90°C is ideal: let boiled water cool for one to two minutes before using it. Preferably use a well-sealed teapot or a mug with a lid to retain the volatile components during steeping.

Where does kola nut come from?

The kola nut (Cola Nitida or Kola Nut) is the fruit of trees from the Cola genus, in particular the species Cola acuminata and Cola nitida. These trees originate from the tropical rainforests of West Africa, where the nuts have played an important role in local culture and medicine for centuries. This plant, related to cacao, can grow up to 20 metres tall. The kola nut is traditionally used in social and spiritual ceremonies as a symbol of respect, friendship and hospitality. Today, kola nut is still valued as a herb and food supplement, and it is an important export product from Africa. Fun fact: kola nut was one of the original ingredients of the well-known soft drink (coca) cola.
